February 20, 2004, Newsletter Issue #113: Banish Those Blemishes!

Tip of the Week

I receive many inquiries on the topic of blemish prone skin. So, I thought I might address this problem in this next issue of the Beautify Newsletter. Contrary to what one might think, blemishes can occur at all different stages throughout ones life, not just during adolescence. These pesky pimples appear sometimes like tiny bumps under the skin. Sometimes these bumps are what we call “white heads”, painful and red. And sometimes, they resemble black dots or “black heads”.

So, how do you go about trying to reduce the appearance and occurrence of blemishes? There are skincare products that can help. Find a line of Blemish Control Cleansers, Toner, Oil-free Moisturizers and Sunscreens, Acne-Fighting Gels containing either benzoyl peroxide or alpha and beta hydroxy acids (such as salicylic acid), and Oil- Control Lotions. There are many over-the-counter products from which to choose. Being that I am a Beauty Consultant with Mary Kay Cosmetics, I feel secure in recommending her line of Blemish Control products. If these remedies do not work, consult a dermatologist, who may suggest antibiotics or other drugs such as Retin-A. If the doctor suspects the break out is caused by hormones, a hormone replacement treatment might be appropriate.

Above all, DO NOT squeeze your pimples. This can cause bleeding, infection and possibly scarring. Keep your hands off! Touching your pimples, transfers bacteria from your hands to your face. I don’t mean to sound obsessive, but who knows where your hands have been…the grocery cart, counting change, the ATM machine…? Blah!

If you do not already have a personal Beauty Consultant, please feel free to check out my website-the Basic Skincare Section-See link below for products:

My suggestion to start would be:
Deep Cleanser Formula 3: Use twice per day-morning and night.
Blemish Control Toner: Start once per day at night. If your skin is not feeling overly dry, increase to morning and night.
Acne Treatment Gel: Use twice per day-morning and night.
Oil Control Lotion: Use twice per day-morning and night.

Optional Product: Clarifying Mask Formula 3-Use twice per WEEK. This will help reduce the size of your pores, thus reduce the appearance of blemishes.
